Oh Reach
The ARTS LAB is chasing the last winter weeks away with a Sunday afternoon of song with the extraordinary musical collaboration Oh Reach.
The three songwriters of Oh Reach were brought together in 2013 by LA based producer Tony Buchen who had worked with them all individually and saw the collaborative potential. Their incredibly divergent voices made for one of the most unlikely trios Buchen could have possibly imagined – the sound they created felt more like tone-films with distinct characters and plots, than traditional songs. He immediately embarked on recording them – all live around six microphones for voices and guitars. No demos were necessary. And so was born Oh Reach.
Following further recording sessions in family homes, a studio in Paris and a space in the hills of Kangaroo Valley, the ‘sound-vision’ finally came together and can be heard on their newly released self-titled album – a weave of stark striking voices and guitars creating a surreal gospel country folk experience.
Oh Reach is Marcus Gordon (Spookyland), Simon Relf (The Tambourine Girls) and Terry Serio (Ministry of Truth). Terry is also one of Australia’s most cherished actors working since the 1980s in theatre (Keating! The Musical), film (Running On Empty, Dirty Deeds) and television (Johnny O’Keefe in “Shout: The Story Of Johhny O’Keefe mini-series). Terry is also part of the trio The Half Truths with the violinist Kathryn Brownhill. Kathryn, who ‘guests’ on the new Oh Reach album will also be playing with the band at The ARTS LAB on Sunday 18 August.
The event will start at 3pm with afternoon tea in the “back bar” with special guest and local Kangaroo Valley singer songwriter Baxter Stone playing fire side to warm you up. Oh Reach will play in the hall around 3.30pm. Stay after for a chat by the fire.
The ticket price includes afternoon snacks and warm drinks, crackling fires and incredible music. Bring your own alcoholic drinks.
Children 12 years and under are free but we will be asking for a small donation to cover food and drinks for them.
